Star in a Vintage / Pin-up Shoot in Brighton

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Next month I will be down to Brighton again, and will be shooting pin-up and retro in the Hotel Pelirocco on Saturday 28th January.  Last year’s shoot with the lovely Acid Doll made the cover of Milkcow Vintage magazine.   For this shoot I am delighted to say The Vanity Box will also be attending,  looking after hair and makeup.

VintageBrighton.com has a feature on their blog about the forthcoming shoot,  but in essence you have the chance of featuring in the shoot.  If you are interested, you will need to email the studio, on info@retrophotostudio.co.uk, attaching between two and five images (each file no bigger than 200K please!).  You will also need to advise on your mobile contact number.

The lucky winner or winners will be advised by mid January.

Lili La Scala performing in Southend

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

What a pleasant surprise to open the local paper yesterday to find a half page portrait from a recent shoot I had done with the lovely Lili La Scala.   You can see more on my work on her website.   It was an even bigger surprise to turn on the TV in the evening just in time to enjoy husband Sam, A.K.A The Boy with Tape on his Face, on stage at the Royal Variety Show.  If you get the chance to see The Boy with Tape on his Face jump at it – really, really funny.

Sam has previously been to the studio shooting publicity shots involving him hammering long nails up his nose (not one to try at home!).  It was a somewhat surreal experience going through the proof images on screen with Sam standing beside me, still with a six inch nail sticking out of his nose!

Foxy Burlesque

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011
Some while ago the very lovely Laura ‘Foxy’ Lawton visited the studio for a burlesque photoshoot.  Amongst other accomplishments Laura runs a very successful Burlesque school near Tunbridge Wells.
From my discussions with numerous burlesque artists, both beginners and full time professionals, burlesque is a great way to give girls confidence.  It is an art form that does not rely on shape, size or age.  Not surprisingly it is rapidly growing in popularity.
Anyway, this preable is by way of showing you a flier below from TN4 Bar featuring Laura shaking her ostrich feathers!

A new year – a new calendar

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Over the past few years it has been my privilege to work with fetish and pin-up model Rayna Terror a number of times.  She has just produced a very limited edition 2012 calendar with some amazing photos.  She has chosen three images from our shoots together along with images from a host of talented photographers.

As a special favour she has allowed me to give you a sneak peek at August!

I understand they are selling well, so if you want to be assured of your personal copy of what is bound to become a collector’s item, head over to Rayna’s store now.

Happy 18th Clare!

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

One year ago Clare’s parents treated her to a shoot at the studio as a birthday gift.  She turned out to be a real fan of the pin-up retro style, and had a great time posing with all the vintage props.

A few day’s ago Clare’s dad wanted to surprise her for her eighteenth – so with our assistance had a cake made with one of the portrait shots from our session…

Sailor Clare!

The studio has appeared on plenty of covers, but never in marzipan on a cake!

Happy eighteenth Clare!

Jessica Bella – sixties girl

Friday, September 30th, 2011

I have had the pleasure of working with Jessica Bella a few times…even though she has to trek from Portsmouth each time!  As she travels that distance we do try to fit in a number of different styles within the same shoot.

Her last visit was primarily to shoot the gorgeous vintage-inspired hats by Rose Patricia Millinery.  I would urge you to visit the site – the hats are spectacularly beautiful, and all the models fell in love with them.  To give you a flavour I have posted below the ‘school photograph’ we finished off with, which graces the banner of the site…

The models are, back row from left, Jean Rae, Jessica Bella, Miss Lilli La Scala and, in front, Rayna Terror

Anyway, after the hat shoot finished, we had a short break, regrouped whilst Jessica changed make-up from forties to sixties, then prepared to shoot a slew of sixties-inspired images.  I’d been in contact with Candy Says, an amazing online store (that also happens to be very local to the studio) – Dawn very kindly collaborated by loaning a selection of sixties outfits for the shoot.

Of course Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton were high on our list for our tribute images.  Last month Vintage Life used one of our monochrome images of Jessica ‘flying’ …as in one, two , three – jump! click!  This month, the October edition, Jessica is both the Vintage Life cover girl and features inside the magazine too.

Well done to tattoo magazine cover girl Cherrie Mae!

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Alternative model Cherrie Mae visited the studio for a shoot a couple of months ago.  One of the shots we took features on issue 77 of tattoo magazine SkinShots International (October/November 2011).

UK Rock ‘n Roll magazine picked another image from the same shoot to illustrate their article on Cherrie Mae.

As mentioned on an earlier post, if you think you have what it takes to feature on a cover of a tattoo magazine, then visit my main site and send me a note on the contact form.

Tattoo shoot day

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Yesterday was a really successful tattoo shoot. The morning was taken up with the gorgeous Krystal Johns  shooting both in the studio, and in a latex bathing costume (Krystal, not me!) on a blustery Thorpe Bay jetty…much to the enjoyment of one elderly pensioner!

The afternoon was spent with the equally cute Emma Young…unbelievably she had never been in a studio before, but was a real natural.

The editorial reaction to both the proofs from both shoots was very enthusiastic…so watch this space!

Now gearing up for an all day location shoot with the lovely Solene Percher

We will be shooting at Bobby Joe’s Diner in Southend, and then moving on to a fifties house before finally ending up at the studio to shoot some vintage outfits for www.sleeknchic.com

Are you a potential tattoo magazine cover girl?

Monday, September 19th, 2011

In recent months my images have featured on a number of tattoo magazine covers.

I am now on the lookout for new female models within travelling distance of Southend, Essex who would be interested in being considered for such a shoot…there is no guarantee of appearing on a cover (that is the editor’s decision), but a photoshoot is a great experience and at the very least you will receive some professional images of your tattoos for posting on Facebook etc!

If the idea appeals to you, and you have some great tattoos to show off,  please email me in the first instance at the studio on info ¦ @ ¦ retrophotostudio dot co dot uk
