Cute & crazy hair accessories

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

A little while ago I enjoyed another shoot for Now Voyager of their inventive, cute hair flowers and accessories.

These are really great tongue-in-cheek fun, guaranteed to turn heads. Whether you are looking for rockabilly or retro they have it – head on over there and see what you think.

Good to see the London Edge flier featured the lovely models Rayna Terror and Miss Lucy Fur modelling a few choice items.

Here’s a taster from our latest shoot – click on the poster to visit the site…

Burlesque x 4!

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Today was the turn of Mary, Jennie, Annie and Nina…all students of Laura Lawton’s Foxy Burlesque 2011 class to perform for the camera.

They all travelled quite a way…Tunbridge Wells and even further afield, but arrived bright and early. Make-up artist and hair stylist Shonagh, ably assisted by Polly set to transforming the girls into sexy retro sirens.  Each girl admitted to a greater or lesser degree of apprehension when they entered the studio, but ten minutes into each shoot they were each enjoying themselves to the max…at the end of the shoot Nina confided that she had found the whole experience very ‘liberating’.

1.5 days…1000 images!

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

Well, Solene arrived early in the afternoon yesterday, then texted me as nobody would answer the door at her hotel! That text was very fortuitous as my wife & I happened to be nearby in the car. We met for a coffee and, on the spur of the moment decided to start shooting right away.

The plan was to shoot product shots of the beautiful fifties nylon stockings – these are new styles for vintage lingerie company Sleek ‘n Chic, and the only similarity with the modern ‘seamed stockings’ seems to be the price! The quality of these items is superb, the feel of the flat-knit quite unlike the modern copies, and Solene immediately fell in love with them!

That was the plan, and indeed we did shoot the stockings, but once Solene was ready it seemed a pity not to shoot some editorial images too, so we ended up shooting some cute images with a fifties bar too.

Next day was an early start as we commenced shooting at the local American diner Bobby Joes at 8am before moving on to a beautiful fifties restored house…it really felt like we were stepping back in time!  A swift lunch break and then back to the studio for some editorial tattoo pictures, a pin-up set or two, and to shoot the entire retro range of sunglasses for Sleek ‘n Chic.

Our gracious host Jo, whom I dragged in front of the camera…the foreground being hogged by one of her delicious bubblegum milkshakes.  There is no doubt that Tony & Jo have recreated a wonderful fifties diner ambience here. If you are headed to Southend, you must eat here – you won’t regret it!

During a very long day of shooting Solene was a real trooper – even when one of her eyelashes started attacking her at Bobby Joes she still delivered with great poses and expressions.

Now comes the task of shortlisting the best from so many wonderful shots. Watch this space!

Tattoo shoot day

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Yesterday was a really successful tattoo shoot. The morning was taken up with the gorgeous Krystal Johns  shooting both in the studio, and in a latex bathing costume (Krystal, not me!) on a blustery Thorpe Bay jetty…much to the enjoyment of one elderly pensioner!

The afternoon was spent with the equally cute Emma Young…unbelievably she had never been in a studio before, but was a real natural.

The editorial reaction to both the proofs from both shoots was very enthusiastic…so watch this space!

Now gearing up for an all day location shoot with the lovely Solene Percher

We will be shooting at Bobby Joe’s Diner in Southend, and then moving on to a fifties house before finally ending up at the studio to shoot some vintage outfits for www.sleeknchic.com

Are you a potential tattoo magazine cover girl?

Monday, September 19th, 2011

In recent months my images have featured on a number of tattoo magazine covers.

I am now on the lookout for new female models within travelling distance of Southend, Essex who would be interested in being considered for such a shoot…there is no guarantee of appearing on a cover (that is the editor’s decision), but a photoshoot is a great experience and at the very least you will receive some professional images of your tattoos for posting on Facebook etc!

If the idea appeals to you, and you have some great tattoos to show off,  please email me in the first instance at the studio on info ¦ @ ¦ retrophotostudio dot co dot uk
